Columbia Specialty Company was founded in 1962 by Walter Kent and Jack Burmeister piping supply men who originally distributed stainless steel piping to the oil refineries and the chemical and power industries in Southern California.

In 1975 Columbia Specialty moved into the location that still remains home to the Company, a 15,000 square foot facility in Paramount, California.  During the late 1970's and 1980's Columbia expanded it's operation to include a machine shop with the capability to make specialty pipe fittings and modified piping products.  It was during this time period that Columbia began to develop a reputation for the ability to supply almost anything relating to industrial piping systems with the attitude of "if you can't find it we'll make it!"

Throughout the 80's and into the early 1990's Columbia Specialty continued to develop as one of the premier suppliers of stainless steel and alloy piping products and also began offering welding fabrication to compliment the machine shop.  Columbia Specialty expanded the customer base to include the petro-chemical, power, aerospace, marine, water filtration and commercial construction industries.  We also serve customers with special piping challenges and environments.  Our welders are ASME Section IX certified and our machinists are experienced qualified craftsmen.

The turn of the century saw new ownership and expansion at Columbia Specialty.  In 2001 Columbia Specialty purchased StainSteel a stainless steel piping distributor located in Downey, California.  In 2002 Columbia made substantial investments in carbon steel piping inventories and a new fleet of delivery trucks.  We also purchased Plumbing World in Long Beach, California and entered the plumbing distribution business.  In 2004 Columbia purchased Azusa Pipe and Tube Bending located in Azusa, California.  Azusa Pipe and Tube Bending began bending and coiling pipe and tube in 1953 and compliments Columbia Specialty Company's fabrication capabilities.  Columbia Specialty opened a new branch in September of 2007 to serve Northern California from West Sacramento.  The last 6 years have seen 800% growth and our workforce has grown from 12 to over 60 associates.
